About this dive site
This dive site, known as The Potteries, offers a fascinating experience for divers. It's a relatively shallow reef, reaching a maximum depth of 12 meters and is covered in a captivating history: hundreds of ancient Greek amphoras are scattered across the seabed. These amphorae, likely once holding wine or olive oil, add an intriguing mystery to the site – perhaps even remnants of a lost merchant ship wreck. The area transitions to sand beyond this depth, so it’s best to stay within the shallower zones and keep an eye out for octopus and scorpionfish hiding amongst the rocks. You can expect to observe a variety of reef fish, including shoals of sea bream and colorful wrasse. A shy red and white striped squirrel fish is often found beneath one rock ledge on the reef. It’s important to note that removing or photographing the amphorae is strictly prohibited by Greek law. The site is located near a fish farm, which occasionally contributes to unexpected finds.
