About this dive site

This dive site, named 'Special Request,' is positioned on the outer edge of the vibrant Dr. Groom's Garden in Grenada. It presents a gentle, natural slope that begins around 12 meters (40 feet) and descends to a maximum diveable depth of 20 meters (65 feet) for the specific site, although the broader reef system continues deeper in certain areas. Divers can easily navigate by following the contour of the reef, transitioning from the more delicate soft coral gardens at shallower depths to areas dominated by robust hard corals as they go deeper.

The marine biodiversity at Special Request is particularly appealing for those interested in macro life and unique invertebrates. The upper edges of the reef are adorned with numerous sea plumes and large, impressive rope sponges, providing excellent habitat. Amongst these structures, divers can often spot well-camouflaged Slender filefish. A significant highlight and common occurrence at this site is the regular sighting of seahorses, making it a highly rewarding spot for keen-eyed divers and underwater photographers. Various other reef fish also inhabit this healthy ecosystem.

While Grenada generally offers excellent diving conditions throughout the year, the dry season, typically from January to May, often provides the calmest seas and best visibility, enhancing the diving experience. Special Request is particularly recommended for underwater photographers, especially those focusing on macro subjects, due to the rich concentration of small, interesting creatures like seahorses and filefish. Its varied depth range (average 10m, maximum 20m) makes it suitable for both scuba divers of all certification levels and freedivers looking to explore a beautiful reef system.
