This dive site, known as Texas (The Point), is located off the westernmost point of the island. Due to strong and unpredictable currents, dives often commence closer to the Salt Life Point buoy, allowing divers to drift into the Texas area. The Texas buoy itself is situated at 12 meters, and currents frequently push divers offshore, making it a demanding and potentially short dive.
The vibrant reef system boasts huge barrel sponges and intricate gorgonian fans, forming a picturesque underwater landscape. Marine life is abundant, with sightings of grouper, snapper, large schools of yellowtail, Atlantic spadefish, and barracuda commonly reported. The sheer volume of fish contributes to a dynamic and lively dive experience.
Visiting Texas is a roll of the dice due to the currents; divers should be prepared for strenuous conditions. There is no specific best time to visit mentioned, as conditions are variable. This site is best suited for advanced divers comfortable with strong drift conditions. Freedivers and snorkelers are not recommended due to the potential for being carried offshore.
