About this dive site

This dive site features the 'Double Boiler,' a steel-hulled steamship wreck resting at depths between 15 and 19 meters. Divers can explore the well-preserved sections of the vessel, starting with the bow, complete with its anchors. Moving towards the mid-section, significant features like the boilers, pistons, and propeller shaft are visible. The dive culminates at the stern section, where the propeller and steering gear provide excellent photographic opportunities. The wreck serves as a fascinating historical structure and an artificial reef. The wreck has become an ecosystem for a variety of marine life. Divers can expect to encounter numerous species of reef fish, including snappers, groupers, and barracudas, often schooling around the structure. Moray eels are commonly found hiding in crevices, alongside various crustaceans like crabs and shrimps. The wreck's surfaces are likely colonized by soft corals, sponges, and anemones, which in turn attract smaller invertebrates and macro life such as nudibranchs. The best time to visit Goa for diving, including the Double Boiler, is typically from October to May when the waters are calmer and visibility is generally better. This period avoids the monsoon season which brings strong currents and reduced visibility. Divers should possess good buoyancy control to explore the wreck without disturbing its integrity or stirring up sediment. Freedivers with sufficient breath-hold capacity can also explore the shallower parts of the wreck, though the most intricate features are better suited for scuba diving. Highlights include the impressive machinery and the diverse fish life attracted to the wreck.
