About this dive site

This dive site, known as Grand Canyon, is located in the beautiful Lakshadweep Islands of India. It begins with a very shallow reef at approximately 10 meters, transitioning into a sandy slope that gently descends to 31 meters. Beyond this, the topography dramatically shifts to a direct wall drop, plummeting to depths of 60 meters. A prominent pinnacle stands not far from the main wall, creating an impressive canyon formation that reaches depths of up to 45 meters, offering diverse underwater navigation through its varied structures. The Grand Canyon dive site is renowned for its abundance of pelagic life. Divers can expect to encounter large schools of Giant Trevallys, Dogtooth Tuna, and Rainbow Runners. Other notable marine residents include Groupers, Snappers, and graceful Marble Rays. The reef and wall structures are adorned with vibrant Gorgonian Fan Corals, providing a rich habitat for various reef fish and smaller invertebrates. While specific seasonal information isn't provided, dive conditions in the Lakshadweep Islands are generally favorable from October to May. This site is a highlight for wide-angle photography due to its dramatic landscapes and large pelagic encounters. Divers should be prepared for potential moderate to variable currents, especially near the wall and pinnacle. Freedivers will find the diverse depth profiles, from shallow reefs to the deeper canyon, particularly appealing for challenging breath-hold dives.
