This dive site, known as Croce, is located off the Ligurian coast of Italy and is named after a commemorative four-meter-high iron cross. The cross, placed approximately ten years ago, rests on a sandy bottom, though the site's maximum depth is officially 28 meters. Divers navigate along a diverse underwater landscape, starting from a sandy expanse where the cross is found at 32m according to some accounts, indicating a deeper area of interest.
Adjacent to the cross, a striking rocky ridge emerges, adorned with vibrant red sea fans and rising to a depth of 24 meters. This area, along with the milder slopes and hollows, provides shelter for a multitude of marine creatures. Divers can expect to encounter various fish species, crustaceans, and other invertebrates inhabiting the reef and sandy areas.
The Croce dive site is best enjoyed during the warmer months, typically from late spring to early autumn, when water temperatures are more comfortable and conditions generally calm. It is considered the best-known dive of its shoal, offering a memorable experience for both scuba divers and experienced freedivers who can explore its moderate depths and rich marine life.
