About this dive site

This dive site, Grotta di Falco (Falco Cave), is a unique and beautiful underwater cave named after its discoverer, Ennio Falco, a pioneer in apnea. The cave is shaped like a horseshoe, with the entrance and exit always in sight, making navigation relatively straightforward. A particularly unusual feature is an aerial zone, accessible by ascending into a siphon where divers can leave their equipment to float and continue the exploration on foot for 30 meters within the cave system. This unique aspect requires specific skills and training for safe navigation.

Marine life within Grotta di Falco is abundant, with the most striking feature being the numerous colonies of red coral that adorn the cave's vaults. While larger pelagic species might not be prevalent inside the cave, divers can expect to observe various smaller fish, invertebrates, and other smaller organisms that thrive in this protected environment. The cave itself is a key part of the attraction - providing the stunning landscape of the dive.

The best time to visit Grotta di Falco is during the summer months (June to September) when the water temperature is warmer and visibility is generally at its best. Experienced freedivers will find this site especially rewarding due to its manageable depth and the unique opportunity to explore the dry section of the cave. However, always remember to dive with a buddy and have thorough knowledge of cave diving techniques and safety procedures. For both freedivers and scuba divers, it is crucial to maintain buoyancy control and avoid disturbing the delicate coral ecosystem.
