About this dive site

This dive site, Bizen, is one of the west side points of Kushimoto, Japan. It features a channel with two prominent roots near the anchor, situated at a depth of about 18 meters. The site offers diverse topography, transitioning from sandy areas on the west and south, to a series of coral reefs on the north side, which then gives way to a sandy bottom at depths reportedly reaching 25-27 meters, although the maximum advertised depth for diving is 20 meters. With almost no current, it's a very accessible point for all levels of divers. The marine life at Bizen is rich and varied. Seasonal attractions include cuttlefish spawning grounds found in the southern sandy areas. In the northern sandy areas, gobies become particularly active as water temperatures rise. The coral reefs are home to fascinating creatures like jawfish, frogfish, and razorfish, while large schools of yellowtail frequently appear during the winter months. Gimpfish are a consistent sight near the large roots throughout the year. The best time to visit Bizen depends on your interests, with winter offering a chance to witness large schools of yellowtail and warmer seasons being ideal for observing gobies and cuttlefish. Its mild currents and diverse marine offerings make it an excellent choice for both scuba diving and freediving. Beginners will appreciate the calm conditions, while advanced divers can explore the deeper sandy areas and focus on macro photography or wide-angle shots of schooling fish.
