About this dive site

This dive site, Chishi, is situated north of Zamami Island within the picturesque Kerama Islands, approximately an hour's boat ride from Naha. It stands out as one of Kerama's premier summer topography dive sites, particularly favored when south winds prevail. Divers can explore fascinating one-way crevasses winding through the reefs, which, while offering unique underwater navigation, can occasionally become crowded during peak seasons. Chishi is celebrated for its stunning underwater landscapes and intricate reef formations. The marine ecosystem at Chishi is exceptionally vibrant and healthy, showcasing remarkably beautiful coral gardens that attract a rich diversity of life. Key sightings include graceful green sea turtles and stealthy whitetip reef sharks. The site is also home to a variety of smaller creatures like colorful nudibranchs, several species of clownfish (including Hamakuma anemonefish and Pink skunk clownfish), and schools of anthias (such as Sea Goldie and Hanagoi). Other common inhabitants are trumpetfish, banded sea snakes, moray eels, pufferfish, lionfish, butterflyfish, bird wrasse, various parrotfish species, and spiny lobsters. Chishi is best experienced during the summer months, when consistent south winds ensure calm conditions and excellent visibility. Its shallow maximum depth and rich biodiversity make it a popular choice not only for scuba divers but also for skin divers and freedivers seeking breathtaking encounters with marine life and beautiful coral. Despite the potential for crowding within its one-way crevasses, the unique topography and abundant, healthy marine life guarantee a highly rewarding and memorable dive experience.
