About this dive site
This dive site, Kinmenone, is located near Kuroshima, an island accessible via a 30-minute boat ride from Ishigaki Island in Japan. It is renowned for its calm conditions, featuring no significant currents, making it an ideal spot for beginner divers. The main attraction is a vibrant underwater root structure that serves as a focal point for abundant marine activity.
The site boasts an overwhelming density of yellow-flanked coral reef fish, attracting numerous carnivorous species, including impressive big groupers. Divers can also spot garden eels gracefully swaying in the sandy patches, alongside various butterflyfish, snappers, and occasionally honeycomb moray eels. Close inspection reveals an array of colorful clownfish, intricate nudibranchs, and tiny shrimp, making it a macro photographer's delight.
Kinmenone's calm and clear conditions make it suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers throughout most of the year, though specific seasons might offer peak visibility or animal congregations. Its shallow maximum depth and lack of strong currents provide a stress-free environment, perfect for honing diving skills or enjoying a relaxed exploration of its rich biodiversity.
