About this dive site

This dive site, Motosuko Lake, is one of the deepest and most popular freshwater diving spots in the Kanto region, nestled amongst the picturesque Fuji Five Lakes. Situated at an altitude of approximately 900 meters, all dives require adherence to altitude diving procedures, adding a unique challenge and requiring specialized training. The underwater landscape is characterized by fascinating sunken giant trees, which serve as natural congregating points for marine life, along with various rock formations. The lake's cool, clear waters are home to a variety of freshwater fish. Divers can frequently spot Black bass, Magoi (common carp), and Nishikigoi (ornamental carp) huddled around the submerged trees. At the bottom and amidst the rocks, catfish are also commonly observed, adding to the freshwater ecosystem. The best time to visit Motosuko Lake for diving is typically during the warmer months from spring through autumn, when surface temperatures are more comfortable. Due to the altitude, proper dive planning and adherence to altitude diving protocols are essential for all divers. The relatively shallow maximum recreational depth of 15 meters, combined with the deeper overall lake, also makes it an excellent location for freedivers to practice their skills in a unique environment.
