About this dive site

This dive site, Senohama Reef, is an intriguing artificial reef created by the former Nishinoumi Town. More than twenty 3-meter square iron boxes were intentionally sunk here a long time ago to serve as fish habitats. These boxes, now settled on a sandy bottom and partially collapsed, form a unique underwater landscape. Divers often navigate by circling the reef to observe its abundant marine life.

The reef boasts a fascinating and diverse ecosystem. It is crowded with migratory fish, including schools of yellowtail, sparrowfishes, snappers, groupers, and scampi. Larger pelagic species like turtles and even occasional sharks or rays can also be sighted. For macro enthusiasts, the site is a paradise, known for its abundant and brightly colored nudibranchs, notably the vibrant pikachu nudibranch.

Senohama Reef is suitable for divers of all levels due to its shallow depths. It offers both wide-angle opportunities to capture schools of fish and excellent macro potential for finding various nudibranchs. While specific best times aren't provided, the rich marine life suggests it's a rewarding dive year-round. Freedivers and snorkelers will also find the site appealing due to its accessibility and shallow average depth.
