About this dive site

This dive site, known as Shark Fin, is located near the road connecting Rankoshi Ocean Road to Iwanai City in Japan. Access is straightforward via stairs leading down to a rocky beach, with convenient parking and toilet facilities nearby. It offers an easy entry point, making it well-suited for less experienced divers and freedivers. Underwater, divers can explore numerous rock formations and swim-throughs, navigating an 'underwater garden' formed by seaweed and other marine plants. The site is particularly rich in smaller marine life, featuring many types of snails and octopuses that can be found hiding within the caves and among the stones. Small fish are abundant, adding to the vibrancy of the 'underwater garden' environment. Seaweed and various other aquatic plants create a lush backdrop for these creatures, making it an engaging spot for macro observation. Shark Fin is an excellent year-round destination, especially during calmer weather conditions. Its accessibility and variety of macro life make it a highlight for underwater photographers focusing on small subjects. For freedivers and open water divers, the numerous swim-throughs and shallow average depth provide ample exploration opportunities in a safe environment. Proper footwear is essential for navigating the rocky beach entrance.
