About this dive site

This dive site, Snake Hole, is a celebrated spot on Irabu Island's west coast, particularly revered by topography divers. The dive features a captivating cave entrance located between 5–8 meters, leading into a 4-meter wide, 10-meter deep chamber. A notable highlight is the air dome within, where atmospheric pressure shifts caused by waves create a mesmerizing, fog-like effect, transforming the underwater scene into something eerie and uniquely beautiful. The Snake Hole is a haven for various cave-dwelling fish and crustaceans. Divers can expect to encounter several fascinating species, including the southern giant hawkfish, the elegant longnose hawkfish, and the distinctive tuna giant hawkfish, along with other small reef fish adapted to cavern environments. The best time to visit Okinawa, and by extension Snake Hole, is typically from May to October for optimal weather and warmer water conditions. This period generally offers the clearest visibility, enhancing the cave's dramatic features. For both scuba divers and freedivers, the site's unique air dome and topography provide an unforgettable experience, making it a prime location for wide-angle photography and exploration of its stunning rock formations.
