About this dive site
This dive site, Sumisaki, is a popular spot in Kushimoto, Japan. Its main feature is a prominent large pinnacle located directly under the anchor line, ascending to about 12 meters from the surface. Divers can explore this central structure and navigate to several scattered remote pinnacles, including a cleaning station situated to the west. The general depth increases to a maximum of 27 meters further north, offering varied exploration without any notable historical context or specific story behind the site.
Marine life at Sumisaki is diverse, offering sightings of snappers year-round, particularly congregating under the anchor. The northeast section is often bustling with kudagombe, glass gobies, and bannerfish. Seasonally, divers can also delight in spotting fascinating macro creatures such as frogfish and various species of nudibranchs, adding to the site's biological richness.
With snappers present throughout the year and minimal current, Sumisaki is an excellent dive site suitable for divers of all levels at any time. For those keen on macro photography, planning a visit during the seasons when frogfish and nudibranchs are most prevalent would be highly recommended. Both snorkelers and freedivers will find the relatively shallow average depth and the prominent pinnacle easily accessible and enjoyable.
