About this dive site

This dive site, Zenisu, consists of three remote reefs situated 36 km southwest of Jinzu Island within Japan's Izu Seven Islands chain. Its isolated location means it is exclusively accessible by charter boat, with travel times ranging from 1.5 hours from Jinzu Island to up to 5 hours from Nishi-Izu. The dive site offers a pristine, untouched underwater environment away from regular tourist routes. Zenisu is celebrated for its extraordinary abundance of marine life, particularly large pelagic and migratory species. Divers can anticipate encountering powerful schools of big fish, including various shark species, green sea turtles, vast numbers of mackerel, and large schools of hawkfish. The site is also known for sightings of whales actively chasing these massive schools of fish, along with huge numbers of butterflyfish populating the reefs. With a maximum depth of 18 meters and an average depth of 9 meters, Zenisu's depth profile is suitable for a wide range of divers. However, due to the presence of large pelagics and likely strong currents in this exposed ocean environment, it is best suited for intermediate to advanced divers. The best time to visit would likely be during specific seasons when these large migratory animals are most prevalent, although specific months are not detailed.
