About this dive site
This dive site, Les Arches de Sakatia, is characterized by impressive rock formations rising from a sandy bottom at 23-24 meters. The main structure features three prominent arches at 19-20 meters depth, leading to a smaller arch further along a plateau at 15 meters. Navigating the arches requires careful attention to buoyancy and potentially strong currents. There is no recorded history of this dive site but it is well known to local dive operators.
The site boasts a diverse array of marine life. Large pelagic species such as whitetip reef sharks and manta rays are frequently sighted, making it an exciting location for spotting big marine animals. Smaller inhabitants include a colorful assortment of antennae, leaf scorpionfish, stonefish, scorpionfish, crocodilefish, and ghostpipefish, ideal for macro photography.
The best time to visit is during the dry season (April-October) when visibility is generally excellent and currents are less intense. Strong currents are possible during the wet season (November-March), making the site more suitable for experienced divers. Freedivers should be aware of potential currents, however the shallower plateau allows them to explore in a controlled manner.
