This dive site is Mumbang Rock, a small rocky island located just a five-minute boat ride northeast of Juara Bay. The site features two prominent rocky islands that break the surface, descending to a sandy bottom bay at around 18 meters, though the primary dive area reaches a maximum depth of 15 meters. Divers will explore a landscape rich with large boulder corals, intricate rocky coral scapes, and intriguing overhangs, offering a visually diverse underwater experience.
The marine life at Mumbang Rock is vibrant and varied. Divers can expect to encounter numerous fish species such as False Clownfish, Batfish, Fusiliers, Pufferfish, Parrotfish, and Butterflyfish. The coral formations are extensive, including healthy branching coral, brain coral, plate coral, and soft coral. Beyond fish and coral, the site is also home to other fascinating creatures like stingrays, turtles, and a variety of nudibranchs, making it a good spot for macro observation as well.
While no specific 'best time' is mentioned, diving in Tioman Island is generally excellent year-round, with peak seasons offering calmer conditions. This site is ideal for both scuba divers of all levels due to its shallow nature and mild currents, and its clear, relatively calm waters also make it very suitable for freedivers and snorkelers who wish to explore its rich shallows and coral gardens.
