This dive site, known as Sand Ray Alley, is a vibrant underwater location primarily characterized by a rich population of stingrays. The topography begins with rocky outcrops extending down to 10 meters, where it transitions into a soft sandy bottom. It's in this unique transition zone, between the rock and sand, that a multitude of stingray species thrives, making navigation straightforward – divers typically follow the contour between the two distinct environments.
Divers here are guaranteed a stingray galore, with Jenkins and Blue-spotted Stingrays being a common sight. Beyond the abundant rays, the site also offers glimpses of larger pelagics such as the occasional Black-Tip Sharks and Hawksbill Turtles. Smaller reef inhabitants like Unicornfish, Boxfish, and Angelfish add to the biodiversity, creating a lively underwater spectacle.
The best time to visit Sand Ray Alley generally aligns with Malaysia's dry season (typically March to October) for optimal conditions and marine activity. Divers should remain vigilant for triggerfish, which can sometimes exhibit territorial behavior, especially during nesting season. For freedivers, the relatively shallow average depth of 8 meters, along with the distinct rocky and sandy features, makes it an excellent site to observe marine life on a single breath.
