This dive site, located within Tioman Marine Park, offers a unique and somber experience as divers navigate a graveyard of over twelve fishing boats that have not respected marine park rules. The presence of these wrecks creates an artificial reef system. Navigation occurs between these submerged vessels, often characterized by quite low visibility which contributes to a strange and moody underwater atmosphere.
Despite the challenging visibility, the wrecks and artificial reef support a diverse ecosystem. Divers can discover vibrant soft corals and a variety of nudibranchs, making it interesting for macro enthusiasts. Remoras are a common sight, often following divers during their exploration. The highlight for many is the impressive 'tornado' of rabbit fish that gathers around the artificial reef, providing a dynamic display of marine life.
With a maximum depth of 15 meters and an average depth of 7 meters, this site is accessible to divers comfortable with navigating in low visibility conditions and around wrecks. While no specific 'best time' is provided, Tioman generally offers good diving conditions outside of the monsoon season (typically November to February). Due to the shallow depths, it is also suitable for freediving. Divers should be mindful of potential boat traffic near the surface, implied by the origin of the wrecks.
