About this dive site
This dive site, Aarah Dekunu Thila (ADT), is a deep thila located directly in front of Aarah island in the Maldives. Dives typically begin on the gently sloping southwest part of the lagoon, drifting at approximately 22 meters towards a small block, and then continuing to the main thila structure. If currents permit, the dive can conclude at the main reef, offering a diverse and dynamic underwater experience.
The marine life here is rich and varied, featuring encounters with impressive Gray reef sharks, schools of Barracudas, majestic Napoleon wrasse, and large groupers. Divers can also spot elegant eagle rays, shimmering glass fish, and discover macro wonders like giant morays, shrimp, and various snails thriving on the thila roof.
While no specific season is mentioned for peak sightings, the Maldives generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round. This site is particularly suited for divers comfortable with drift diving and potential strong currents. Freedivers with advanced skills could also explore the shallower parts of the thila, but careful planning regarding current conditions is essential for all.
