About this dive site
This dive site, Alighaa Beyru Faru, is a captivating underwater location approximately 40 minutes southwest of Le Meridien Maldives. As is typical for a faru, it offers a relatively easy drift dive experience along a vibrant, coral-covered reef. Divers can navigate by following the gentle current along the sloping reef, which starts at a shallow top of 5 meters and extends to depths of 30 meters and beyond. There is no known specific historical narrative associated with this natural reef formation.
The reef at Alighaa Beyru Faru is rich with marine life, showcasing beautiful corals that form a thriving ecosystem. Divers can anticipate encountering impressive pelagic species such as grey reef sharks, which are frequently observed cruising along the reef. Large napoleon wrasses are also a common sight, alongside schools of tuna. Overhangs scattered throughout the reef provide shelter for various creatures, including stingrays, further enhancing the site's biodiversity.
The best time to visit Alighaa Beyru Faru aligns with the general diving season in the Maldives, typically offering consistently good conditions from November to May. It is an excellent site for divers to observe larger pelagic fish and enjoy a relaxing drift. Freedivers will appreciate the accessible shallow reef top and the opportunity to explore the initial slopes and overhangs on a single breath. Always be mindful of the currents, even on 'easy' drift dives, and ensure proper surface support.
