About this dive site
This dive site is an advanced-level dive located in the open ocean, featuring two distinct thilas or underwater pinnacles. The highest point of the first thila starts around 14 meters and descends to its base at approximately 30 meters. Navigation typically involves following the reef contour, often as a drift dive due to the exposed location and potential for strong currents.
The thilas and surrounding rocks are vibrantly covered by a diverse array of soft corals, creating a rich ecosystem. Divers can expect to encounter pelagic species such as eagle rays, large tuna fish, various sharks, and a wide variety of colorful reef fish typical of the Maldivian waters.
The best time to visit the Maldives, and thus Barefoot Thila, is generally during the dry season from December to May, offering optimal visibility and conditions for encountering large marine life. Due to its advanced rating and potential for strong currents, divers should be experienced and comfortable with drift diving techniques and safety protocols.
