About this dive site
This dive site, Chapati, is an exciting Thila located southwest of Medhufushi in the Maldives. Divers can explore a vibrant sandy plateau on its southwest side, ranging from 10 to 15 meters, densely covered in diverse soft corals. The eastern side offers intriguing exploration opportunities with numerous caverns and overhangs found between 15 and 23 meters. No specific history or story behind the dive site is provided.
The marine life at Chapati is abundant and varied. Big animal encounters include stingrays and whitetip reef sharks, which are frequently seen gracefully navigating the reef. For macro enthusiasts, the site is a delight, hosting glass fish, cleaner shrimp, nudibranchs, flatworms, sea stars, and sponges. The vibrant soft corals covering the plateau add significantly to the site's rich biodiversity.
Chapati offers excellent diving throughout the year, with generally good conditions typical of the Maldives. The soft coral plateau is a consistent highlight, providing a colorful spectacle, while the caverns offer exploration for more experienced divers. Divers should be mindful of potential currents, especially around the Thila, although marine life often meanders casually. Both snorkelers and freedivers can enjoy the shallower parts of the site due to its average depth and diverse ecosystem.
