About this dive site

This dive site, Colosseum, located on the west side of Thulusdhoo island in the Maldives, is named for a distinctive, large indentation at approximately 20 meters depth that resembles a Roman amphitheatre. This unique geological formation defines the site's character and serves as a natural gathering point for a diverse array of marine life. Divers navigate around this striking corner, keeping an eye out for the constant flow of creatures drawn to the channel's rich waters. Colosseum is renowned for its abundant pelagic encounters. Divers can expect to see magnificent reef sharks, majestic manta rays, graceful turtles, and schooling tunas and jackfish. Napoleons and stingrays are also common visitors. On fortunate occasions, divers may even encounter the colossal whale sharks and impressive hammerhead sharks, making it a truly exhilarating experience for big animal lovers. The best time to visit Colosseum often aligns with the general diving seasons in the Maldives, which are typically excellent year-round, though specific pelagic sightings can vary by month. Divers should be prepared for potentially strong currents due to its channel location, which are often responsible for attracting the incredible marine biodiversity. Freedivers will also find this site highly rewarding given its moderate depths and high chance of pelagic encounters.
