About this dive site

This dive site, Faadhoo Kandu, is recognized as one of the two magnificent channels located northeast of Le Meridien Maldives. Diving here is primarily a drift experience, where navigating the channel requires careful planning due to potentially strong currents. The bottom is quite deep, making it impossible to hide from strong currents, thus dives are typically undertaken during milder conditions for a safer crossing. Faadhoo Kandu is renowned for its incredible pelagic encounters, offering divers a chance to see what the Maldives are famous for. Expect to encounter various sharks, majestic napoleon wrasse, large schools of jack fish, graceful stingrays and eagle rays. The channel is also a hunting ground for powerful pelagic species such as dogtooth tuna, bluefin tuna, bonitos, and trevally. Alongside the big fish action, the site features beautiful coral formations that add to its vibrant underwater ecosystem. For divers planning a visit, the best experiences are typically had when currents are mild, allowing for a more comfortable and thorough exploration of the channel's marine life. This site is not recommended for beginners or the faint-hearted due to the challenging current conditions. It is specifically a scuba diving destination, unsuitable for snorkeling or general freediving due to the depth and strong currents, and is best enjoyed by experienced divers seeking thrilling encounters with large marine animals.
