About this dive site

This dive site, Kandholhudhoo Thila, is a small underwater pinnacle located northwest of Kandolhu resort in the Maldives. It is widely regarded as suitable for all levels of divers, making it an accessible and enjoyable location. The dive typically involves exploring the thila's structure, which features a vibrant top reef starting as shallow as 5 meters and slopes down to a sandy bottom at 25-30 meters. Divers can navigate by following the reef contours, exploring the various overhangs and ledges. Kandholhudhoo Thila is rich in marine biodiversity. Its overhangs provide shelter for an array of fish, including colorful groupers, sweet lips, and soldier fish. The shallow top reef is a highlight, often covered by a dense, orange cloud of Anthias, creating a stunning visual spectacle, especially during safety stops. With a bit of luck, divers might also encounter larger pelagic species such as majestic eagle rays or graceful mobulas, adding an element of excitement to the dive. The dive site offers rewarding experiences throughout the year due to the consistent tropical conditions of the Maldives. Its shallow top reef makes it an excellent spot for both snorkeling and freediving, allowing non-scuba divers to appreciate the abundant marine life. For scuba divers, the Thila offers diverse photographic opportunities, from wide-angle shots of the reef teeming with Anthias to potential encounters with pelagic visitors. It's an ideal location for combining easy access with plentiful wildlife.
