About this dive site

This dive site explores the Maldives Victory, an 80-meter long cargo ship that tragically sank in 1981 while transporting goods from Singapore to the resort islands. Located just off Male City and the airport island, this wreck offers an exciting underwater navigation challenge. The ship lies upright, making it a classic wreck dive experience, allowing divers to explore its structure and imagine its past life. The Maldives Victory wreck has become an artificial reef, attracting abundant marine life. Divers can expect to see large schools of various reef fish, which are drawn to the shelter and food sources provided by the sunken vessel. It is also a haven for macro enthusiasts, with numerous opportunities to spot small creatures like nudibranchs, crustaceans, and various invertebrates hidden amongst the wreck's structure and the corals that have started to grow on it. The best time to visit the Maldives Victory is generally year-round, although conditions can vary. Given the strong currents often present in the channel, it is recommended for divers with intermediate to advanced experience, or those comfortable with drift diving. Freedivers can also enjoy exploring the shallower parts of the wreck, with an average depth of 13 meters, but should be mindful of the currents. This site is a highlight for wreck lovers and macro photographers, offering a unique blend of history and marine biodiversity.
