About this dive site

This dive site, Okobe Thila, is an amazing submerged reef composed of three distinct blocks in the Maldives. The largest block stretches 80-100 meters in the south, densely covered with vibrant corals, making it an ideal starting point for a dive. To the east lies another magnificent block, rich in coral life, drawing comparisons to Maya Thila. The smallest of the three blocks is situated to the north. There is no specific history or story provided for this site beyond its natural formation. The marine life at Okobe Thila is abundant and diverse. Divers can expect to encounter large schools of Snapper, Jacks, and Fusiliers. These schools attract a variety of predatory sharks, including resident white tip and black tip reef sharks. In the deeper blue, it's common to see larger pelagics such as passing gray reef sharks and barracudas. The reef blocks themselves are teeming with healthy corals, supporting this rich ecosystem. The best time to visit Okobe Thila, like much of the Maldives, is generally during the dry season from December to May for optimal weather and calm seas, though marine life is present year-round. This site is recommended for divers with an AOW (Advanced Open Water) certification or higher, indicating that conditions may include currents that require experience. While the average depth of 13 meters makes it potentially accessible for freediving and snorkeling, strong currents might necessitate caution.
