About this dive site
This dive site, Ookolhu Faru, is uniquely composed of two distinct diving areas separated by a sandy plateau at approximately 8 meters depth. To the south, divers can explore a spacious lagoon averaging 12 meters deep, offering a calm environment. Towards the north and northwest, a long, sloping reef, characteristic of a "faru," extends from 10 meters, though the maximum recommended diving depth here is 19 meters. No specific history or story is provided, but the layout offers varied exploration.
Ookolhu Faru boasts vibrant marine life. Divers can expect to see beautifully preserved corals that form the backbone of the reef ecosystem. During the season, the site is a known spot for manta rays. Other common sightings include numerous glass fish congregating in blocks, various species of turtles, delicate shrimps, elusive moray eels, and a rich diversity of other tropical reef fish.
The best time to visit Ookolhu Faru, particularly for manta ray sightings, would be during their specific season. The site's varied topography, from shallow lagoon areas to deeper reef slopes, makes it suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers looking to explore diverse depths and marine habitats. Its calm lagoon sections are also excellent for snorkelers.
