About this dive site

This dive site, known as Rainbow Caves, is an exhilarating 600-meter drift dive in the Maldives, renowned for its intense colors and dynamic underwater environment. Divers are propelled through the site in approximately six minutes by strong currents, making it a thrilling experience that requires advanced skills and often a 'flow specialty' due to the challenging conditions. The site is explored at different levels, offering varied perspectives of its vibrant beauty. The marine life here is exceptionally diverse and plentiful. Divers can expect to encounter large pelagic species such as nurse sharks, whitetip reef sharks, stingrays, and majestic manta rays (seasonal). Other impressive residents include napoleon wrasse, large groupers, and sea turtles. The 'frenzy of colors' also refers to the many beautiful soft corals that carpet the underwater landscape, providing a home for smaller creatures like snails, shrimp, and a myriad of reef fish. The best time to visit Rainbow Caves for encountering manta rays is between November and April. This dive site is a highlight for experienced divers seeking an adrenaline-fueled drift dive with unparalleled marine encounters and stunning coral formations. Due to the strong currents and the swift nature of the dive, it is highly recommended for advanced divers familiar with drift diving techniques. Freedivers and snorkelers may find the strong currents too challenging for a comfortable experience.
