About this dive site
This dive site, Salleydhoo Thila, is located a short 15-minute boat ride north of Le Meridien Maldives. It boasts a unique topography, diverging from the typical round thila shape. The southern part is characterized by two distinct tongues extending to depths of 20-22 meters, offering an interesting exploration path for divers. The main thila itself provides varied underwater landscapes and is relatively easy to navigate.
Divers can expect to encounter an abundance of marine life, most notably thousands of glassfish congregating in dense schools on the deeper tongues. A great variety of surgeonfish are commonly seen across the thila, indicating a healthy reef ecosystem. While not explicitly mentioned, Maldivian reefs typically host a diversity of corals, reef fish, and potentially larger pelagics attracted by the glassfish.
The highlight of Salleydhoo Thila is undoubtedly the impressive schools of glassfish on the southern tongues. Visibility in the Maldives is generally excellent year-round, making it a great site for both wide-angle and macro photography. Freedivers will appreciate the manageable depth and interesting topography, while scuba divers can enjoy leisurely exploration of the thila's unique features and diverse marine inhabitants.
