About this dive site
This dive site, known as Thavatha, serves as the local 'bad weather' alternative, particularly when strong currents and waves affect other sites like Kinolhas from the north. Shaped like a vast underwater pool, it is frequently utilized for orientation and training dives, making it an ideal spot for divers to hone their skills in a sheltered environment.
Diving deeper, small overhangs reveal an incredible abundance of macro life, including the elusive ghost pipefish. Larger inhabitants such as giant moray eels, boxfish, pufferfish, sweet lips, and stingrays can be found on the sandy bottom around 20 meters. Lucky divers might also witness a manta ray gracefully flying by in the blue.
While specific peak times aren't detailed, the Maldives generally offers excellent diving year-round, with specific seasons for manta sightings. Thavatha is particularly appealing for macro enthusiasts and new divers seeking a calm, rich environment. Both snorkelers and freedivers will appreciate the clear, shallow areas and the opportunity for close encounters with marine life.
