About this dive site

This dive site, known as The Big Cave, is a prominent feature along Faru in the inner Atoll of the Maldives, and is recognized as part of the Maldivian Marine Park. The dive experience leads divers through an extensive cavern system, which measures approximately 10 meters in height and stretches 15-30 meters deep. Navigation typically involves exploring the cavern's vast interior, marveling at its unique structure and resident marine life within this overhead environment. Inside the cavern, the walls are beautifully adorned with an array of soft corals, vibrant gorgonians, and assorted anemones. On the white sandy seabed just outside the cavern entrance, divers can often spot stingrays and sleeping white tip reef sharks. The surrounding reef also teems with many shoals of fish, adding to the dynamic underwater ecosystem. The Big Cave is suitable for diving year-round, with the Maldives generally offering excellent conditions. Divers should possess at least an Intermediate certification due to the cavern environment, ensuring good buoyancy control and comfort in overhead spaces. While the main attraction is the cavern, experienced freedivers will also find the depth and unique topography appealing. The site offers fantastic opportunities for wide-angle photography.
