About this dive site

This dive site, known as Turtle Point, is situated on the southwest outer reef of a Maldivian atoll. It is primarily experienced as a drift dive, where divers allow the currents to carry them along the reef. The reef itself features a gentle slope, extending from a shallow 5 meters down to around 30 meters. While the top reef may not be exceptionally spectacular in its coral formations, the site is renowned for its unparalleled abundance of sea turtles, giving it its famous name. The marine life at Turtle Point is diverse and abundant. Besides the countless sea turtles, divers can frequently encounter reef sharks, including both white tip and black tip varieties, and schools of batfish. The site also offers opportunities to spot lobster tucked into crevices and boasts a good variety of schooling fish. For those with an eye for detail, there is also plenty of macro life to be discovered amongst the corals and reef structure. The Maldives generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round. While there isn't a specific 'best time' mentioned for Turtle Point, it consistently delivers on its promise of turtles. Divers should be comfortable with drift diving techniques. Its relatively shallow average depth of 11 meters, with a maximum of 22 meters, makes it suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers, particularly those keen on observing turtles at shallower depths.
