About this dive site

This dive site, Vakkaru Manta Point, is characterized by a central block situated on a large sandy area, which may function as a cleaning station for manta rays. The site also features a gently sloping reef system extending between 5 and 15 meters, providing a sheltered habitat for a variety of small fish. The surrounding vast sandy expanses, reaching depths of around 20 meters, are home to other interesting marine life. Divers can anticipate encountering a diverse array of marine animals, prominently including manta rays, particularly when they are in season. Other large pelagic species frequently observed here are eagle rays, stingrays, and Napoleon wrasse. The sloping reef and sandy bottom offer refuge to smaller creatures such as scorpion fish, various moray eels, and several species of shrimps, alongside numerous small reef fish. While manta ray sightings are a highlight and occur at the 'right time,' their presence is not always guaranteed. With a maximum depth of 18 meters and an average depth of 9 meters, the site is well-suited for divers of all experience levels, from beginners to advanced. Its shallow reef also makes it an excellent location for both snorkeling and freediving, offering ample opportunities to observe the vibrant marine ecosystem from the surface or with breath-hold dives.
