About this dive site
This dive site is located on the middle island of Comino, specifically on its north side, and is commonly known as Santa Maria Caves or Ghemieri Caves. These captivating cave systems offer a unique diving experience for various levels of experience. The area contains at least ten distinct caves, each with its own particular beauty and features – no two are exactly alike. Some caves feature swim-throughs and underwater tunnels, while others boast stunning blue waters entering their entrances. It’s suitable for both divers and snorkelers due to the relatively shallow depths of many caves; most are partially exposed above water, allowing for easy access for snorkelers. Underwater photographers will find this location a true playground. The marine life is abundant, including damselfish, moray eels, spiny lobsters, crabs, octopus, nudibranchs, and mullets. Banded Sea Breams can also be found here; they are known to gather around areas where bread is offered.
The average depth of the caves is 7 meters, with a maximum depth reaching 10 meters. Access to the site is primarily by boat.
