About this dive site

This dive site, known as Media Luna due to its distinctive crescent-shaped coral formation, rests on a pristine layer of white sand at an average depth of 7 meters, descending to a maximum of 14 meters. Divers can fully appreciate its unique topography during the descent, observing its graceful curve against the bright sandy seabed. The site’s name translates to 'Half Moon', perfectly describing its memorable underwater landscape.

The coral formation teems with a variety of marine life. Among the most commonly spotted species are triggerfish, known for their vibrant colors and distinctive swimming patterns. Yellowfin grunt fish are particularly abundant, often schooling around the coral. The healthy coral reef provides a habitat for numerous other reef fish, crustaceans, and invertebrates typical of the Caribbean ecosystem.

The best time to visit Media Luna is generally during the dry season from November to April, offering optimal weather and water conditions, though diving is possible year-round. Its shallow depths and mild currents make it an excellent choice for beginner divers and a perfect spot for underwater photography, particularly macro and wide-angle shots of the crescent formation. Freedivers will also find the site very appealing due to its accessibility and vibrant marine life near the surface.
