This dive site, Katshoek, is a wonderfully densely vegetated area along a breakwater in the Oosterschelde. Divers can explore the calmer, sheltered inside of the breakwater, which is particularly rich in macro life like crayfish. The outside, however, can experience stronger currents. There is no specific history or story provided for this site beyond its natural features.
The fauna and flora at Katshoek encompass almost all the classic elements typical of the Oosterschelde. This includes various species of crabs, shrimp, lobsters (including crayfish), gobies, blennies, flatfish, sea anemones, sponges, and diverse types of seaweed and macro invertebrates. It's an excellent spot for observing the intricate ecosystem of the estuary.
The best time to visit Katshoek is typically during slack tide to avoid the strongest currents, especially when venturing outside the breakwater. It's suitable for both divers and freedivers, with the shallower, calmer areas inside the breakwater being ideal for snorkeling. Divers should be mindful of the variable currents and plan their dive accordingly, perhaps starting inside before carefully exploring the outside if conditions allow.
