About this dive site

This dive site is located at ergse Diepsluis (Oesterdam) in Tholen, Netherlands. It’s a popular diving location and one of the few spots within the Oosterschelde estuary that offers calm conditions – specifically, no currents are present in the Bergse Diepsluis. This makes it an accessible dive site for many divers. A key characteristic of this area is the seasonal migration of numerous sepia mollusks during the spring months as they seek to pair up. Hundreds of divers annually visit to witness this fascinating phenomenon. To observe the sepia, divers should monitor water temperature; when temperatures reach twelve degrees Celsius, the first sepia begin to appear. Divers regularly place sepiatent structures in the area where the sepia lay their eggs, providing a safe haven for breeding. Pijlinktvissen (pipefish) also utilize these broods as shelter and feeding grounds.
