This dive site, Preekhil - De Val, is situated on the scenic edge of the Preekhilpolder, named after a historical chapel that once stood here. Access involves a walk over a dike after passing a gate at the parking lot, then turning right and left to the dike's end. This straightforward navigation to the entry point makes it an accessible shore dive, characteristic of many Grevelingen sites.
Underwater, divers can expect to encounter typical Grevelingen marine life. Common sightings include various species of crab, shrimp, and starfish. Butterfish are also regularly observed, and in the spring, the site is particularly known for the presence of delicate flaky nudibranchs, making it a good spot for macro enthusiasts.
The best time to visit Preekhil - De Val is during spring to maximize chances of spotting flaky nudibranchs. Its shallow average depth of 5 meters and maximum depth of 11 meters, combined with generally mild currents, make it suitable for both snorkeling and freediving, as well as an excellent spot for beginner divers to gain experience or for macro photographers to find interesting subjects.
