About this dive site
This dive site, Lost Reef, is located near the Kharabah Islands within the Daymaniyat Islands nature reserve, approximately 40 minutes from Wave Marina in Oman. The dive begins with a descent to around 6 meters, gently sloping down to a maximum depth of 18 meters. A significant portion of the dive takes place over an underwater platform before transitioning to a small wall. The dive is easily navigable, following the dive line which helps divers explore the site's varied features.
Marine life is abundant at Lost Reef. Divers can expect to encounter a wide variety of coral reef fish, including many species not specified here. Larger animals such as sea turtles, leopard sharks, stingrays, and devil rays are also frequently seen. The area boasts both hard and soft corals, contributing to the rich biodiversity.
The best time to visit Lost Reef is typically during the warmer months (October to May) when the sea is calm and visibility is at its best. Water temperatures are generally pleasant during this period. For freedivers, good planning is important, given the potential for mild currents. Divers should check the weather forecast and current conditions before embarking on their dive. Maintaining buoyancy control is advised to avoid disturbing the delicate coral formations.
