This dive site, Gilutungan Coral Plateau, is part of Hilutungan Island, located approximately 30 minutes by speedboat from Jpark Marineboy Dive Center. Situated near Nalusuan, this site is renowned for its vibrant and healthy coral garden, making it a popular destination for divers of all experience levels. As a coral plateau, navigation is generally straightforward, following the gentle contours of the reef.
The marine life at Gilutungan is abundant and diverse. Divers can expect to encounter impressive schools of Giant Trevally and graceful Batfishes that often congregate around the plateau. For photographers, particularly macro enthusiasts, the site offers a wealth of smaller subjects, including various invertebrates, nudibranchs, and other fascinating critters hidden within the corals.
The best time to visit Gilutungan Coral Plateau, like much of the Philippines, is during the dry season, typically from November to May, when water conditions are generally calm with excellent visibility. This site is ideal for both scuba divers and freedivers due to its accessible depths and rich marine ecosystem, offering spectacular wide-angle opportunities with schooling fish and excellent close-up shots of macro life.
