This dive site features the MV San Juan, a fascinating shipwreck that sank in the year 2000. Originally resting on its side, the wreck was dramatically shifted to an upright position during Super Typhoon Odette, adding a unique chapter to its history and making it an impressive underwater landscape. Divers navigate around and potentially through parts of the wreck, exploring its structure which ranges from an average depth of 15 meters down to its maximum diveable depth of 31 meters.
The MV San Juan is teeming with marine life, offering a vibrant ecosystem both inside and around its structure. Divers can expect to encounter a variety of species including triggerfish, jacks, surgeonfish, and tunas, often schooling around the wreck. For those taking their time during decompression stops, friendly wrasses are known to approach and interact, adding a playful element to the dive.
The best time to visit the MV San Juan, like much of the Philippines, is during the dry season from November to May, offering calmer seas and better visibility. This wreck is particularly suited for experienced divers comfortable with deeper dives and wreck exploration. Freedivers can also enjoy the shallower parts of the wreck, with the average depth of 15 meters being well within reach for breath-hold diving.
