About this dive site

This dive site features the Olympia Maru, a Japanese freighter that sank in 1930. The wreck measures approximately 122 meters in length and nearly 17 meters wide, with a displacement of 5612 tons. Originally powered by steam, it was later equipped with a powerful oil-two stroke six-cylinder engine producing 582 horsepower installed between June 2nd and August 2nd, 1930. Built for Mitsubishi Shoji Kaisha Ltd., the ship remained owned by them until its demise. It was requisitioned during wartime but continued to be under their ownership. The Olympia Maru offers an excellent opportunity for wreck diving, with easy access to cargo rooms. The dive area is teeming with marine life, including large shoals of banana fish, giant batfish, and giant pufferfish commonly found near the mast, bow, and stern. Specimens of crocodilefish and scorpionfish can also be observed; however, caution should be exercised when handling any objects or exploring tight spaces. This wreck provides a fascinating glimpse into maritime history and offers a rewarding dive experience.
