This dive site, also known as Takot Shoal or the 'sunken island', is located in the San Juan area of Siquijor. It is characterized by a sloping reef that starts at approximately 12 meters, extending to depths of up to 40 meters, though the maximum recommended depth for general recreational diving is 19 meters. This site is considered more advanced due to the potential for encountering moderate to strong currents.
The marine environment at Takot Shoal is rich and diverse, featuring beautiful coral compositions that create a stunning underwater landscape. Divers can expect to find a variety of marine life including charming seahorses, visiting sea turtles, colorful reef fish, and a big variety of exotic critters. This makes it an excellent location for macro photography enthusiasts.
While specific seasonal highlights are not provided, the dry season (typically November to May) generally offers the best diving conditions in the Philippines with calmer seas and good visibility. Divers should be experienced and prepared for currents. The accessible depth range also makes this site suitable for advanced freedivers.
