This dive site, the Upside Down LCU2, is a historic wreck dive located in Subic Bay, Philippines. Originally an assault craft designed to deliver tanks onto hostile beaches, it now rests inverted on the seabed, providing a unique and fascinating exploration for divers. The wreck offers interesting structural details and provides small penetration opportunities for those with proper training and experience.
The LCU2 has transformed into a vibrant artificial reef, teeming with abundant marine life. Divers can expect to encounter schools of cardinal fish, lion fish, brown-banded pipefish, and various nudibranchs. Parrotfish, wrasse, and Moorish idols are also common inhabitants, alongside colorful sea fans adorning the wreck's exterior.
The best time to visit Subic Bay is generally during the dry season, from November to May, when water conditions are calmest and visibility is typically at its best. Divers should be experienced in buoyancy control for the 30-meter maximum depth and any potential small penetrations. Freedivers with appropriate training can also explore the shallower parts of the wreck and its surrounding marine life, enjoying the 15-meter average depth.
