About this dive site

This dive site, Kamionka Piast Parking 1, is a popular marl quarry located near Opole, Poland. It serves as the primary and most accessible entry point to what is considered the best diving area in the Opole region. Divers can easily navigate the shallower sections of the reservoir from this parking lot, which provides direct and good access to the water. As a former quarry, it offers a unique freshwater diving experience without significant historical narratives beyond its industrial origin.

The quarry is home to a diverse array of freshwater fish species, including roach, rudd, perch, tench, pike, eel, dwarf catfish, ruffe, catfish, silver carp, ide, and chub. The bottom is notably covered with vegetation, extending up to 15 meters, providing ample habitat and hiding spots for these animals.

The best time to visit this site would likely be during warmer months for more comfortable conditions, though freshwater quarries can be dived year-round with appropriate drysuit gear. Its shallow maximum depth of 10 meters and good access make it highly suitable for beginner divers and for training purposes. Both snorkelers and freedivers will also find the site appealing due to its clarity (for a freshwater quarry) and abundant plant and fish life in the shallower areas.
