This dive site, Baixa do Broeiro − Maroudi Inglessi, is renowned as one of the richest reefs within the Estelas archipelago, off the coast of Portugal. Divers can navigate along the vibrant reef structure, which descends towards the resting place of the Maroudi Inglessi wreck. The most prominent features of the wreck are its two huge boilers, offering a glimpse into its past. The overall dive experience is significantly influenced by prevailing ocean conditions, making it a dynamic environment.
The reef is teeming with marine life, showcasing abundant pelagic fish and diverse encrusting organisms. Common inhabitants include scorpion fish, known for their venomous spines, sea-urchins with their sharp spines, and trigger fish, which can be territorial and bite. These species contribute to the rich biodiversity of the site, making it a vibrant ecosystem for observation.
Due to its high dependency on ocean conditions, divers are advised to check local weather and sea forecasts before planning a visit to ensure optimal and safe diving. The site's depth range, up to 26 meters, combined with potentially variable currents, makes it more suitable for experienced divers. Freedivers with experience can also explore the reef. Caution is paramount, especially regarding contact with scorpion fish, sea-urchins, and trigger fish.
