About this dive site
This dive site, Muro Wall, is part of Portugal's largest natural reef, extending from Armação de Pêra to Albufeira. The wall itself is characterized by vibrant red algae covering the reef, creating a stunning visual effect. Navigation is generally straightforward, following the wall's structure. There is no known specific history or story associated with the site, but its ecological significance as part of a larger reef system is noteworthy.
Marine life is abundant and diverse. Scorpionfish and seabream are commonly sighted, along with a variety of other fish species that contribute to the reef's vibrant ecosystem. The red algae provide a significant habitat for smaller invertebrates and crustaceans.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months (June to September) when visibility is typically at its best and the water is warmer. While currents are usually mild, it's advisable to check local conditions before diving. Both scuba divers and freedivers can enjoy the site, with the shallower sections ideal for beginners while the deeper parts offer more to those with more experience.
